Joged is popular entertainment where dancers are inviting audience to dance. The female dancer will ask a male from the audience. Invited male dancers from the audience can look at the beauty of the dancer but they cannot touch any parts of the dancer’s body or face, although the dancer looks persuading. Touching or holding the dancer on the stage shows that you are a rude person. Only the lucky ones from the audience are invited to dance on the stage. If you are invited to dance by the dancer, you are supposed to dance, otherwise disappointing the dancers. You are invited to dance whenever you are touched or pointed using the fan held by the dancer. Soon after arriving on the stage you are given a belt made of cotton. Accompanying the dancer on stage for 1-3 minutes is considered perfect.

In such a performance the artists wear masks signifying the characters of the Ramayana story. With the topic of the epos, this play is usually performed in the village, in particular on Galungan day, one of the biggest holidays in Bali. The purpose of the performance is to provide some information to the local Balinese about some aspects of Hindu religious teaching. More then fifty artists are involved. In both villages, financially all members of the villages are expected to contribute to all village religious activities. If any of the village members are slected to be the dancers of the performance, he or she is free from the duty mentioned above.
