Tanah Lot is located about one and a half-hour from the international airport. Tanah Lot temple is perhaps one of the most iconic sites in all of Bali and very popular among tourists. The temple itself is a rocky promontory which is accessible at low tide and said to be the work of revered 15th century Hindu priest forming an important spiritual element of a Balinese pilgrimage.
A short drive from the nearby Tabanan city, the road to Tanah Lot is lined with many beautiful, classic Balinese rice terraces. The area is particularly busy when visitors come to watch the spectacular sunset. There are numerous souvenir vendors on the way to the temple and at the nearby black sand beach. In the vicinity there is the fantastic, high-end Nirwana Golf Course and a short car ride away one can also find the small Pejaten village which is well-known for creating beautiful ceramic items. Visitors can find varying styles and types of hotels in Tanah Lot with a variety of accommodations, as well as a large number of restaurants along the cliff top.
